Live & Onstage
Tue, May 8 / 06:30 / Kabuki / FIVE08K
Considering that in its first half-century the International has shown roughly 5,700 films to two million people and hosted thousands of film industry professionals from more than 150 countries, it’s a fair bet that there are a few good yarns to be spun. Like the time Sam Peckinpah did his onstage interview while drinking whiskey, or when Festival programmer Albert Johnson tap-danced with Fred Astaire, or Catherine Deneuve clobbered François Truffaut over the head with her purse, or . . . well, you get the picture. Join us for this very special onstage event as we remember, celebrate and thrill to true stories of some of the Festival’s greatest moments and best-loved alumni. Several SFIFF icons will take the stage to tell tall tales from behind the red curtain. Four audience members drawn at random will tell their own two-minute Festival stories. And in between narratives, we will screen photos and clips from 50 years of the International’s glorious and tumultuous history. This special evening is presented in association with the Porchlight Storytelling Series and hosted by Porchlight’s Beth Lisick and Arlene Klatte. Marc Capelle will provide live musical accompaniment. Visit www.sffs.org and www.porchlightsf.com for guest updates. (Note: The Festival's history site at http://history.sffs.org also features "Collective Memory" pages where you can read and post your own SFIFF stories.)
